- Ehlers-Danlos conferences has completed, but I will be tweeting several notes from talks I attended on Saturday! #
- Dr. Pocinki explained at the conference how Ehlers-Danlos may be affecting the autonomic nervous system. #
- Dr. Pocinki explained: EDS causes blood vessels to get relaxed & thus hold onto more blood instead of pushing it along. (Part 1) #
- Blood tends to pool in vessels at lowest parts of body due to gravity. To get blood up to brain, body invokes the adrenergic system (Part 2) #
- Adrenergic activity includes adrenaline (epiephrine) in the blood as an attempt to fix the lack of blood in the brain problem. (Part 3) #
- Increased adrenergic activity has a direct negative impact on symptoms such as pain & sleep. (Part 4) #
- It also has an indirect impact on symptoms THROUGH it's impact on sleep. Adrenergic activity affects sleep & sleep affects symptoms.(Part 5) #
- Beta-blocker drugs are now being used to treat pain, POTS, sleep disorders, gastrointestinal symptoms, etc. (Part 6) #
- Beta-blockers fool the receptors that are waiting to receive signals from adrenaline. (Part 7) #
- If these receptors get a message from adrenaline, they will set off a chain of funky events in the name of more blood to the brain. (Part
# - If the receptor is blocked, then no message is received, even if there is a lot of adrenaline. (Part 9) #
- Use of Beta-Blockers is new and exploratory in EDS, but theoretically sound. TY Dr. Pocinki! (Part 10 end) #
- Physical therapist, Kathy Zonarich, gave an informative presentation at the Ehlers-Danlos conference. (Part 1) #fb #
